Sonny Chabra began his career as a mechanical engineer in India and the Middle East. After immigrating to the United States, in 1992, Sonny purchased American Mini Computer, Inc. where revenue increased by more than 6,000% during the life of the company, achieving 34 consecutive profitable quarters. In July 2005, Sonny started Agilant Solutions, Inc., which has enjoyed profitable quarters since inception.
Sonny is the recipient of numerous distinctions for his corporate leadership, including Ernst & Young’s “Entrepreneur of the Year Award”; the “Blue Chip Enterprise Executive of the Year” award from the United States Chamber of Commerce; VARBusiness Magazine “Lifetime Achievement Award”; and the “50 Fastest-Growing Asian American Businesses” award presented at the White House by Honorable former United States Secretary of Commerce, Carlos Gutierrez.
Sonny’s business, personal and entrepreneurial contributions to the South Asian/Indian-American communities have also been recognized with distinguished honors. Along with the former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Sonny received the coveted “Ellis Island Medal of Honor” presented by the National Ethnic Coalition Organization (NECO) and the US Congress. Among other honors, he received the “Pride of India Gold Award” from former Prime Minister of India, Honorable H.D. Deva Gowda; the “Jewel of India Award” from former Prime Minister of India, Honorable I.K. Gujral; and the “Punjabi Ratan Award” from the Honorable Secretary of State of the United States, Hillary Rodham Clinton.
